Description

For a marine mammal, the hedgehog spends a disconcerting amount of time on land. What do they want, what are they up to?

Hedgehogs are troubled spirits, and yet, they never fail to entertain the masses with their acrobatic feats. Many people don't know, however, that hedgehogs aren't born this way. Hedgehogs need to be trained and molded into the tiny, fiscally responsible acrobats we know and love.

That's where you come in.

Train your hedgehog in more than 40 challenges and keep his cunning mind from veering. We will give you a sensible amount of ropes (11) and 6 special powers, like the ability to deploy a parachute, control the wind or summon a vortex. Your challenges will change with the nature of those powers.

So, crash those orbs as fast as you can, collect those stars and keep track of your performance with built-in stats. We will even let you tweak the rope physics, because we're not just accomplished scientists, we're also human.

You might encounter detailed animation along the way. But don't fall for it. It's designed to fool you into empathy.

A very polished, but hard to understand game

I can see all the details the developer took care in creating - the transitions are seamless, the art direction is beautiful, and the core game mechanics are addictive. The problem for me, is I never quite know what I'm doing, the UI is very minimal, with little to no text - I'm all for discovery and user curiosity, but perhaps a little more hand holding is necessary, especially with concepts in menus - what your score means, how to unlock more ropes, are there more levels? The ingame tutorial is fine, that got me up and running in no-time (though the quick vs in-depth option I still don't get. And i kind of felt dumb for picking the 'wrong' option at first.)

My other critique is I want to be able to control where the rope gets thrown, it seems like there is a pattern to where it comes out from the spinning hedge hog, but it's never where I want it to. I'm sure that is suppose to be part of the charm, but I find it frustrating.

I do look forward to updates as this game evolves. I do think its special.

Looks vs. Gameplay

I've been playing this for a while now, and I've gotta say, this game looks absolutely amazing. The design is really well done and I commend the developers for such a unique and beautiful presentation. However, the actual game doesn't fly so far. It's addicting at first, but as soon as you're at the point where you're stumped on the challenges, the game becomes frustrating. There should definitely be improvements on the functionality of the game because sometimes the missions seem practically impossible. This app has so much potential, but it needs to improve. I've been stuck on Sparrow for forever....

Edit: I changed my review to 5 stars. This game is absolutely brilliant. Of all the games I've played on a phone, this game is the most aesthetically appealing and unique. I haven't played this game in a while, but for some reason I keep coming back to it. I've finally moved pass Sparrow and have come to love the functionality of the game. There's simply nothing like it. It truly is a beautiful game, and once you get a hang of it, Wide Sky is a spectacular app to pick up and play.

tl;dr: It's 2015, and I still play this game.

Beautiful, sassy, and cute

Did anyone get the Murder, She Wrote references? My mom did and loved it.

The art is adorable and swift, reminds me of Samurai Jack. People complain about the functionality being confusing but it just takes getting used to. Love the sassy help instructions - beginners should use the detailed helper, it explains everything. Really, guys, this game is not that hard to get good at.

However, there's this one challenge that I've definitely completed multiple times (Bounce off the hills into an orb) and it doesn't show that I got it. It would also be nice to continue a saved game but each one is so short it doesn't really matter. The app is pretty new, tweaks can always be made.
