Needs update

Speed test and neighbors not working on iphone 12

PDP1134 ,

It runs

Started to write a review, and then for some reason the window closed. Not sure if it submitted it but here we go again…No useful information. No signal strength, no listing of SSIDs.

When you click on the neighbor tab it shows nothing.

On top of that, it seems to think that my router is an access point! Sorry buddy, but you should be able to detect what you connected to and determine that that is not actually what you connected to. And then it wanted to connect to my router to “optimize it“.

Who lets an app connect and modify things? You can get an awful lot of information from a number of different Wi-Fi analyzer programs that will run on your Mac. The problem is that when you are walking around, say, an aircraft carrier, trying to analyze Wi-Fi signals you cannot carry a Mac and get anything done.

And of course it says that my router is not even supported and it has never heard of it. Never heard of Mikrotik? Geez…

It does actually list a bunch of devices that it says are connected. It saw maybe 1/4 of the computers. Yes they are connected. But they are not on the Wi-Fi. Even some of the PERL scripts I have written to try to get a better analysis of the network can tell that. Why am I so negative? Because I’ve been looking and looking and looking and nobody actually writes anything that does any kind of network analysis. At least not for a mobile device. Apple used to let developers do that, and there were some great apps - 10 years ago!

The very best ways to really boost WiFi

What’s the very best way to really boost your WiFi connections? Simply do what some restaurants recommend. Mount your device on top of your suspended, ceiling tiles. Turns out that most WiFi antennas push their signal straight down. So run your Ethernet cables into the back of your WiFi router mounted just under the ceiling at the end of your hallway about a foot below. This will put it near the center of your house. If you have two floors put it on the floor near the center of the house or just above the main hallway to the bedrooms.

As a plus this will help with moving them away from the things that could be blocking them such as refrigerators, freezers, stoves, or other appliances.

The article states that the worst places to move them is in a corner on the floor.

The old adage is so so true a radio is only as good as it’s antenna. And the higher a antenna the better. Guess that you could mount it upside down to the ceiling. Most good restaurants have them installed in the main dining room just over your heads. They call single antennas (nodes). My library has three different ones, one for kids, one young adults, and one for everyone else depending upon what area of the library they’re in.
