My favorite macOS app

This is by far one of the most useful tools I have used and one of the reasons I even stick with Macs instead of going to Windows. WiFi explorer has been used for countless projects and it comes in handy for troubleshooting and optimizing. I have used it recently to help install two Google WiFi setups at different houses with different layouts. Being able to see all of the devices as they come online and their signal strength and other stats was really helpful and educational. One observation that I was having is that my laptop at times was not connecting to the closest Google WiFi AP, instead it was holding onto to 2nd floor AP even when the signal strength was 10-15% less. These are the kinds of insights you don’t get often and it was cool to see how that worked. For work settings it has been useful to find down APs or research which channels to set devices too in a crowded building. WiFi Explorer pays for its self in only a few uses, it is worth every peney and I am happy to see the developer continue to work on it and squash bugs.
5 Star from a non-technical perspective

I bought a mesh network to replace my airport & recently expanded it to the garage. I wasn’t getting a great signal, but didn’t know what to do to fix that. I tried a couple of other apps, but nothing was super clear. I bought this one & was able to figure out the best placement for my garage router. It’s still not a great signal, but it’s much better now & at least gets a ‘good’ signal rating. Without this app, I would have just been guessing (and it turns out that the best placement is not where I would have expected). I will likely not use this app much in the future, as I tend to keep my networks for a long time. But even for one-time use, it was worth the $20. After paying hundreds of $$$ for the hardware, an additional $20 to make sure I’m getting the best performance out of my hardware was well worth it to me.
Incredible

I’ve been using this utility for years. Anyone who has been profesionally trained on wireless installations knows that it is a practiced science, not an excact science. What works for one enviornment may not work for another. What works at one location in a building may not work 50 feet away in the same building. I use this software as a systems administrator to diagnose wireless performance from my laptop as I walk around the floor in our offices. This utility makes it very quick and easy to identify performance, and see how performance fluctuates as I wander from here to there, identifying deadzones, or areas impacted by high EMI and low SNR. I’d recommend this utility. The author does a good job deploying consistent and regular bugfixes in addition to feature improvements — updating it year after year and keep this program running reliabily as Apple releases their OS X platform changes. This app is great. I’d absolutely recommend it.
BEST WiFI Scanner? Yes! Worth twice the price?! Yes!!!

I can't say enough good things about this app. NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING in this bracket does what WiFIExplorer (WE) does, or as well. I have been using WiFiExplorer for I think 4-5 years.Besides scanning networks, you can read the Ins (Information Elements) if the beacons under the “Advanced” tab, you can find hidden network. You can switch between Passive and Active scanning. The displays filters are great and super useful for finding things quickly. As a wireless professional, WiFiExplorer is one of my main GO TO tools. For quick analysis of the environment I pull out WE first on site. With the Pro version (which I use) you can even performe Spectrum Analysis using 3rd party hardware devices such as MetaGeek's WiSpy. This is truly a professional tool. Even the Standard version of WE is a fantastic tool.Lastly, the developer of this app is SUPER responsive - adding featuers and fixing (the few) bugs that inevitabley come up on a consistent basis. For quick, PROFESSIONAL analysis, cannot go wrong with this app.
• Adds support for the Telecom Infra Project AP Name element.
• Adds support for the Wi-Fi Alliance Capabilities element.
• Fixes an issue where the AP name may not be displayed for nontransmitted networks.
• Fixes a crash that may occur when accessing the vendor database.
• Improves vendor name resolution.
