Description

Learn to read rhythms with a smile :-)
Part puzzle, part game, part drum machine, learn to recognise rhythms at a glance!
(and help save some Aliens!)

Part puzzle, part game, part drum machine! Have fun with rhythm and learn to read core elements of standard notation fluently. Also useful for young learners of English as a foreign language, as it provides examples of stress patterns in UK English, improving accent.

This app introduces 7 common rhythm patterns that can be 'read and recognized'. When we read ordinary text, we group the individual letters into words, and quickly become much more fluent than if we spelled out each letter. We can do this with rhythms too - and read common patterns much more quickly than if we worked out each beat.

Young children are very open to visual associations, and can learn to recognize standard notation by looking at the patterns as whole chunks. Complete beginners can have fun with rhythm patterns, reading from real notation, as a puzzle instead of a headache!

Clever and cute but need work

I love the creative approach and feel of this app, but it is unusable on my iOS 7 iPad - it quits after nearly every screen! Please fix so I can enjoy it without interruption.
The screen that shows 2 rows of beats with stop buttons for each beat is very useful, but could we also have a Start button to get the beat going again?
The matching game might go better more at the start of the app.
The balancing block puzzles are very clever. There is a time element built in that makes it mor exciting as you progress through levels.

Fun music app!

I look forward to trying this out with my elementary music classes. It is very fun! I can't wait for the next in the series.

Great idea

As a piano teacher I like to try out these kinds of apps. This one is great! The method to teach more complicated rhythms was natural and easy and sticks in the brain. The students I "test drove" the app on had a great time. I tried it on my 11 year old son, who has been tried on so many music games he is sick of them. He took the iPad away from me so he could play! I can't wait to see the next installment of this game.
