Too easy, not exciting
UPDATE: I’ve lowered my rating from 3 stars to 2 because the puzzles are so easy they can be finished in seconds. Then you yawn through ads longer than the time you played. I expected them to get harder as the levels increased, but they didn’t. I still think the game is O.K. but more for children than adults. A 10 year old might find them challenging and give the app a good review, but I think most adults will get bored fast. I don’t want to discourage or insult the programmers, but the reason I gave it a low rating is because we don’t mind watching ads as a trade-off for a well designed game, but I feel this one abuses that concept. I suspect the app is just an excuse to display as many ads as possible without investing much time and effort in development.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: This isn’t a bad game; it’s just nothing special. I finished 75 puzzles to give the game a fair chance. It was easy and relaxing, but soon got boring. Maybe it gets more challenging later, but then I feel they should increase the difficulty sooner. Or maybe it’s for children. I got tired of sitting through so many invasive ads because there was nothing exciting to look forward to. Maybe if it had more interesting graphics, or there was a payoff in the form of seeing your score compared to other people, or you were working towards a goal, it would have retained my interest.
I couldn’t stop playing until I finished
I’m a massive, expert-level crossword fan and also enjoy Scrabble (though not a fanatic there) and found this game very enjoyable, calling on skills and challenges that come up in both games. The game play is smooth, the puzzles come in a variety of shapes, sizes and levels of difficulty (hardest and biggest being my favorite), and the inclusion of bonus points for off-board words and means to get hints is great. While the app is ad-supported, I found the ads generally less annoying than in other games. As final testimony to how much I enjoyed this game, I will mention that I passed through ALL 2100 levels, and received a message that I’m done with the game for now, until if and when more levels are added.
This game is super fun, UNTIL the ads start invading game time. I timed it just because I was inundated with ads. I watched the 75 extra points at the end of the round. (30 secs). Then new round and immediately a 30 sec ad for Disney with no exit. Played one level, and another 30 sec ad for Disney. Another level, and at the end of that, I tapped “No thanks” instead of the extra 50 points. It ran another 30 sec ad for Disney even though I said No Thanks. So it forced a 30 sec ad anyway without the extra points. Then played 2 more levels and another 30 sec ad for Disney. So that’s 2 forced minutes of ads in less than 4 minutes! Yeah, takes the fun right out of it!
