Help your young learner (ages 3-8) become a proficient reader! Learning word families, such as clam-ham-jam-yam, will teach your child to decode “chunks” of letters. Once these 72 one-syllable phonograms are learned, longer words will be easier to decode and read, too.

Developed for your iPad, this clear and easy matching game will teach and reinforce spelling and literacy. Word Families requires 3-5 minutes for a young learner to complete, making this iPad app ideal for students with limited attention spans or those requiring highly visual or tactile learning experiences. Additionally, these activities have been uniquely designed to lock and play only in the portrait mode in order to simplify game play and eliminate an orientation switch if young learners jostle the iPad while playing.

Pocket Chart Word Families

This app has some value, but there is a serious flaw. When the picture is matched to the letter family list, the missing letter is not filled in. There is no way to go back to settings and there is no way to skip ahead.
