Description

Writer's Companion is an app created by author Caleb A. Robinson to aid writers in planning novels, organizing content, and achieving goals.

Projects:
Projects are at the center of the Writer's Companion App. Every goal you set, outline you create, and world-building item you add will be related to a Project to help you stay organized. The word "Project" can be replaced with "Novel", "Screenplay", or "Dungeons and Dragons Campaign"; it just depends on what you use the app for!

World-Building
The world-building tool can be used to organize information about the world in which your story takes place. Adding a world-building item will create a new category into which you can organize your ideas (for example "Characters" or "Kingdoms"). Once you have created a category, you can add individual items (for example "Percy Jackson" or "Gondor").

Goals
Goals help writers stay on target to achieve their dreams. Use this part of the app to create and edit goals and to view your progress. Goals are tied to your Projects so you can keep your progress organized. Goals don't have to be measured in word counts. You can use chapters, hours, pages, scenes edited—anything you can think of!

Planning
The planning tool allows you to create chapter outlines for your Project. Each Project can have one chapter outline. You can add world-building items to each chapter so you can keep track of which characters are present in the scene, where it takes place, or really anything you might need to track! You can easily view your writing progress by checking the box next to a chapter when it is complete.

Miscellaneous
There are a handful of other tools to use such as note taking, backing up your data, a Tip of the Day, user statistics, and more!

Excellent app for a great price!

I have been looking for an app to help me in my new hobby as a Dungeon Master for my wife as we play Four Against Darkness with a D&D twist. She plays four characters and I create the story, combat situations, etc…

Anyway I have tried other apps that either I couldn’t get started on or they had too many ads and pop ups. This app is simple and user friendly, and it only costs .99 cents a month.

In the course of just about two or three hours I managed to set up notes on all my story goals, characters, equipment and services for my wife’s characters to buy or sell, a list of geographical locations in the world I’m creating, and even a list of non player characters in my main town and the services they provide along with notes about their personalities and history.

You can make any category you like for your folders in the app and you can even select how the folders look by choosing from many symbols in the app. For example, my “brainstorming” folder is of a person fishing and my “story” folder is the image of a book. And most of the other folders (characters, dungeons, geography, etc…) are fantasy based images.

It will be nice to have all of this information condensed into a phone app while my wife and I play the game. I am very happy with this app and the cost considering I’m in a tight budget. Nicely done!

Loving it! But…

I recently got the app to help organize my story and so far I love it, but there are a few issues I’ve noticed.
Nothing glaring but a few quality of life fixes would do wonders
In the build section it doesn’t seem to distinguish what story the categories are in, which could be really confusing if you have a lot of stories your working on at once, and while this isn’t a big problem and mostly personal preference, it would be really nice if you could favorite certain categories you use frequently So you don’t have to scroll through to find it every time!
Another thing that would improve it would be adding smaller categories in an item or making info boxes collapsible, that way you don’t have to scroll through a massive wall of text to find the specific info your looking for.

Those are some general quality of life fixed that I think would improve the tool but those are just minor nitpicks and honestly I love this and would absolutely recommend it to others

PLEASE ADD THIS FEATURE!

I love this app a lot so far and it has been extremely helpful in my world building process… However, I really hate that everything automatically sorts alphabetically. Specifically for my custom notes I make for places and characters. Sometimes the note that I want first is not the note that is highest up in the alphabet. If there’s a way to turn this off, please let me know! But in general, most writing apps that have categories like this allow you to move notes around on the interface, so you can sort them how you want. Please, as someone who is paying for this app because I really genuinely enjoy it, please add this feature or get rid of the automatic alphabetical sorting 😭
