Ratings and Reviews
Almost perfect
Xnip is a great screenshot app. However, there is one aspect of the app which holds it back from being perfect: the lack of stroke on annotations.
When I add text to a screenshot in Xnip, first I have to draw a horizontal line at maximum thickness. Only then can I write text on the screenshot. If I do not first place a rectangle on the image, the text I enter blends into the colors and elements behind it, making the text unreadable. If I could add stroke to the text this would not be an issue, but as it stands now Xnip does not add stroke to annotations.
This issue is often the same with other annotations such as arrows, lines, or rectangles. They lack a stroke around the annotations, causing the annotations to blend in with the background.
Skitch is a poorly made screenshot app, but it provides stroke on all its annotations which makes them so much easier to use than Xnip. I would sure like to see Xnip add stroke to annotations in the future.
100% a must have app
I have tried quite a few screenshot tools including Firefoxs built in screenshot tool and many other browser extensions and stand alone apps, but This app has been by far the best. For me it is the scrolling screenshot function that puts it so far above anything else, 99% of the time I use the app it is only for the scrolling feature and if I dont need to use that function for a screenshot I use Macs built in ss tool. But just having that 1 function when I need it makes the app an easy 5 stars from me. Also yes the free version is great but just pay the one time $10 price for the pro version and I promise you will be very happy with ur purchase. All you gotta do is not buy a cup off coffee from starbucks for 2 days and then you can use those savings too pay for the full app, and that will improve your life 1000X more then those two coffees would have. The only complaint I have is it doesnt give you the option to rename the screenshot you took immediately after taking it and instead you have to go find it in whichever folder it saved too and rename it manually. If an devs read this please please please add the option to immediately rename the file after taking a SS that would make things so much eaasier but overall amazing app and thank you for making my life and research/studying 1 million times less annoying and time consuming!!!!!!!!!!
5 Stars for a free tool that rivals paid ones
This would be a 4 star app if it wasn't free. It does a better job and has features some paid apps don't. Like this better than the defacto SnagIt (though it lacks video support like SnagIt has, but SnagIt is $50).
It's only shortcoming is that because it's all on screen editing in the snip itself and isn't saving to file, you can easily lose your work if you click off the screen or escape (something you tend to do by muscle memory to get out of a tool).
The developer should charge a buck or two for this and it would be beyond worth it and maybe see some updates like that file format/save that one shouldn't expect from a free product. Great job on this!
