A Game Worth Playing

I didn’t know anything about this developer or what to expect from their game.

Simplistically, the game design is like a “hallway” & you’re opening up “doors” on the right & left side — but, depending on what puzzles you’ve solved, what’s in the “rooms” change. Just because you’ve been there before doesn’t mean there isn’t something in there you need now.
This is one big puzzle adventure game & it actually feels quite long. There are games I’ve played & if it can be beaten in a few hours, you feel ripped off. But not this game. It lasted me a week. & now that I know the quality game my $ buys, I’m happy to explore the rest of their catalog.
The hint guide is really well done. If you’re stuck & just want to be pointed in the right direction, the titles give you a clue w/o spoiling the game.
My only note is there’s a bug in the hot plate puzzle. I never set the dials. I added the ingredients, but never set the temperature & time. The msg wasn’t clear that I’d done it correctly, calling the mixture“slop.” I filled the sprayer expecting when I used it for the game to say “something when wrong, it wasn’t made correctly, etc.” But no. It worked.

Thanks for the great review! And thanks for letting us know about the glitch with the hotplate. Fortunately, as you pointed out, the puzzle still works, it just appears you can skip a step. We’ll get that fixed in the next update.

Navigating is confusing

Having finished the game, I’ve edited my rating and review. (The navigation tripped me up throughout the game. The developer’s response made sense and I appreciate it, but I think muscle memory kept kicking in and I couldn’t remain aware of different navigation on different screens.) IN any case, I forgot how well written this developer’s games are and how humorous. =) They know you’re going to tap on everything and so everything does something and/or there’s a comment. The “puzzles” ranged from pretty clear to mind-bending. I used several hints and sometimes thought Doh!, other times wasn’t sure I would have figured it out. Def recommend.

I have played all of this developer’s previous games, so I bought this one immediately. I expect the content will be similarly excellent once I can stop being utterly confused about where I’m going. Touching the screen “ahead” might bring you ahead or it might turn you around. After playing for 10 minutes, there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason and I had to stop playing.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the updated review. So glad you enjoyed the game. We try to add a high level of detail, and it's nice to know it's appreciated. And thanks for the feedback. Navigation is something we're constantly tweaking in new games, and it helps to know what works and what doesn't.

Sorry for the confusion. There are a couple places in the game, especially after traveling a long distance, where the game might turn you around so you're viewing the screen from the opposite angle. We tried to limit this to a few areas where we didn't want you to miss something important or for dramatic effect. In the early part of the game, this is mostly in the town square. When you come to the cafe, you have been walking for some distance and turn around to see the people seated around you. If you turn around (tap the hooked nav arrow) you are facing the fountain, which is the same direction you came in on. It probably seems a little strange, but it was important to see everything on both these screens. Later on, there are a few places where you come upon something dramatic, and the game turns you to face them because that seemed more natural. Again, sorry it frustrated you. We hope you give it another chance.

great game, wish i could finish (SPOILERS)

loved every minute up until the alien keypad. i used the alien repellent to scare everyone away but when i try to approach the keypad, my alien friend still says there are too many four-legged behind me. when i turn around the field is completely empty. i messaged the developer through their website but didn’t hear back. :(

still giving it four stars because i really liked the story and it’s been a long time since a point and click has challenged me without being totally illogical. i did use the hint system on their website a few times but the solutions always made sense (well, as much as p&c solutions ever make sense). the navigation was a bit confusing at first but i got the hang of it pretty quickly. i’m really disappointed that i didn’t get to see the ending but i still got hours of enjoyment out of it and i’m really looking forward to mysterycaper’s next game.

Developer Response ,

Hi - So sorry about the confusion. Did you leave a comment on our hint message board or email us? We always try to answer every hint request, so we're really sorry to hear your message got lost somehow. In any event, we don't normally like to list hints here, but we can make an exception this time.

** Spoilers **

There are two things you need to do before your buddy will relax. Well, actually, three. You've already done one - scared the aliens away. But your friend is concerned they might return, so you need to cut off their access from the lighthouse island. This is done by going back in time to the earliest time zone and knocking the wall down from the hilltop. This will knock boulders into their path so they can't leave without crossing the water - they hate water. You also need to prevent the aliens in the "kennel club" from joining in. This is done by going to the empty house in the latest time period, going upstairs and pushing the bench in the way of the dog door.

Hope this helps, and sorry again your message was never received.
