Annoying app requires frequent restarts

Yubikeys are great, and I wouldn't be without mine, but this app is a constant annoyance.

This is the kind of app that needs to be constantly running and available. But if it's idle for any length of time, it become unresponsive and has to be restarted. Sometimes it's just unresponsive, other times it will freeze with the Beach Ball of Doom.

A couple of less serious quibbles: Why should a properly designed menu bar app need to take up space in the dock whenever it's running? And why do I have to click on the menu bar icon, and then click a second time to "Show Yubico Authenticator"? Other menu bar apps make their full functionality available with a single click.

Keys are great, app needs work

Yubikeys are awesome and work great. This app, at least on M1 Macs, needs some work. The basic functionality is all there, and it will certainly work, but not without frequent bugs or performance issues.

For example, I frequently have to restart the application in order for it to detect my Yubikey, despite keeping the key plugged into my computer. Also, Scrolling through my codes is a very sluggish experience. It feels like a Java applet.

The app certainly needs some polish.

App is missing key features

Very much like my Yubikeys, but the Authenicator app on the Mac is missing some of the nice features found on the Windows version. Top in my book is the ability to name each of your Yubikeys so you don't have to keep track by their serial number, especially since the nice skins you put on them covers up the number. Secondly, there's no way to keep an icon in the system tray so you must constantly look through all of your open apps in the dock to find the authenicator. The basic functionality of the app is fine, but the missing features make it less convenient to use than necessary.

Developer Response ,

Hi there! Thank you for sharing this feedback with us. We hear you on naming the YubiKeys and it's something our team will consider for future versions of the app. Regarding the icon in the system tray, this is on our radar as well!
