APPS WE LOVE

Inspire Early Learners

Thousands of free learning games, videos, and ebooks.

Packed with educational activities tailored to kids ages 2–8, this nonprofit app teaches early literacy, math, and social and emotional skills, and it’s 100 percent free.

What we love: The breadth of content. Learn about science from National Geographic Young Explorer Magazine. Sing along to Super Simple Songs. The app also includes thousands of interactive activities created in collaboration with learning experts at Stanford Graduate School of Education.

Kodi the Bear, Ollo the Elephant, and Reya the Red Panda guide kids through each activity.

Quick tip: If your child isn’t sure what to do next in an activity, tap Kodi Bear in the corner for a helpful tip or words of encouragement.

Meet the creator: Cofounder Caroline Hu Flexer helped launch Khan Academy Kids in 2018. “In the U.S., fewer than 50 percent of low-income students are ready for school at age 5. Even among mid- to high-income families, about 75 percent are ready,” she says. Khan Academy Kids was created to help close that gap.
