Strava goes beyond tracking your morning run or afternoon bike ride. Learn how the app can help you reach your personal best with these five tips.

1. Get personalized workout suggestions
With Strava’s new Instant Workouts feature, set an intention—Build, Maintain, Explore, or Recover—and the app will recommend a set of workouts based on your activity history. Running 5K comfortably every day but want to challenge yourself? Pick Build as your intention and Strava will suggest five workouts designed to push you—maybe by increasing your distance or upping your pace. Switch to Recover and the app might recommend a low-impact stroll. Tap in for step-by-step guidance and Suggested Routes for runs or rides.

2. Discover popular routes
Skip the route-planning rabbit hole and keep an eye out for Segments, stretches of trail and road that members of the Strava community have flagged. Find nearby Segments on the app’s Maps tab or launch Live Segments right from your Apple Watch as you approach a popular route. Each time you complete a Segment, your time gets recorded automatically. You can also see routes and maps right from your wrist for hands-free navigation with the watch app.

3. Find motivation with Group Challenges
Tap into the power of accountability by creating head-to-head challenges from the Groups tab, like inviting your friends to see if anyone can hit 10,000 steps every day for a week. Plus, Strava’s in-app messaging lets you plan group activities or send motivating messages.
4. Analyze accurately
Athlete Intelligence helps you make sense of what your distance, elevation gain, heart rate, and pace stats actually mean. For example, it might tell you that your last bike ride was longer and more intense than usual, suggesting that you’re building endurance.
5. Share where you are
With Beacon, give three trusted contacts a link that shows your starting point and real-time location. To activate this feature, tap Record followed by the Beacon icon on the right.
