Change the Past, Fix the Present

Rewrite history to help lost souls find peace.

Something terrible happened in Reed River Village—and years later, its departed souls still can’t move on. As a time-bending investigator in The Rewinder, you’ll step into the memories of wandering spirits and carefully steer their past selves toward different choices—like convincing a villager to topple a tree before it falls on a bridge and hurts someone. Can you help these ghosts finally rest?

Explore a moody, misty world steeped in Chinese folklore.

What we love: Changing lives. Probing a villager’s mind—and deciding which hopes and fears you need to alter to affect their fate—is a fascinating challenge. To convince a farmer to take his pregnant wife to safety, you’ll insert thoughts of a neighbor’s murder and rumors of monsters—then watch with delight as his family sees a brighter future.

Quick tip: Before entering a spirit’s memory, you need to know their name. Scope out prayers left in temples, orders placed in shops, and the village’s name registry to learn the identity of the soul whose past you’re trying to change.

Meet the creator: The Rewinder is the first game from Misty Mountain Studio, a small team based in Shanghai. The game’s visuals are based on traditional Chinese ink wash paintings.
