Running shouldn’t be stressful. Which is why the much-loved meditation app Headspace has launched a partnership with Nike+ Run Club to bring serenity to your workouts.

What’s mindful running? It’s simply focusing on being present, working on form, and having more awareness—more mindfulness—of the world around you.

To find mindful runs in the Headspace app, head to the Discover tab and tap Singles. Under Working Out, you’ll find three runs. To do it within Nike+ Run Club, select Guided Runs and scroll down to Run With Headspace. You’ll find six guided runs, ranging from 25 minutes to just shy of an hour.

A guided run doesn’t mean stopping and meditating on the side of the road. It’s basically a conversation between Headspace cofounder Andy Puddicombe and Nike+ Run Club global head coach Chris Bennett, with you in the middle—a seamless combination of podcast and private coaching session.

While you won’t need incense or crystals to become a mindful runner, your headphones might come in handy.

Puddicombe will chat with Bennett about how runners can be more mindful of, say, their surroundings or their form. And then he’ll leave you with words of encouragement—“Allow the body to run, rather than trying to run”—before the app goes silent for long stretches and you simply focus on the task at hand: running.

“We like you to be more focused, less distracted,” Puddicombe says. “I would say because we are applying awareness to the run, our form and our posture tend to improve. We become more aware of our surroundings, which allows us to take it all in. I see very often, when we’re out running, we’re caught up in our inner dialogue so we don’t even get to enjoy it.”

The idea isn’t just to make you run better, Bennett says, but also to make you feel better: "Some of it is and always should be about just ending the run a little bit more at peace with yourself, your day, your surroundings.”
