Things 3

Organize your life

VIEW

Is there anything more comforting—or elusive—than being utterly, completely organized? Things 3 brings you closer to that blissful state by helping you focus on what you can actually get done—right now, at this moment.

It starts by sorting your tasks based on urgency, according to the timelines you’ve set, into four categories: Today (right now!), Upcoming (reasonably soon), Anytime (reasonably soon, hopefully), and Someday (everything else). If you’ve assigned a hard deadline, Things helpfully displays the number of days until that task must be completed, so you can’t miss it.

Projects give your vacation planning structure—and ensure you don’t forget that extra camera battery.

What’s especially magical about Things is how easy it makes rescheduling a task you won’t realistically accomplish until later. With a few taps, move a task to a week from now or to later this evening. This prevents you from staring at—and ultimately ignoring—the same to-dos repeatedly.

And with Projects, Headings, and Tasks, Things also lets you give structure to your to-dos.

Projects are just that (“Trip to Tahiti”) and can be broken down into smaller Headings, like “Lodging” or “Plane Tickets.” Tasks are the things you satisfyingly cross off (“Book dolphin watch” or “Purchase grass skirt”). When you’ve completed a task, Things shuttles it away into its Logbook, which doubles as a journal for your wild productivity.

Create notes, reminders, and checklists and organize them simultaneously with tags, flags, and more.

A good to-do-list app should be neatly customizable, so Things has not only Dark Mode but also a black mode for extra darkness. Use Siri Shortcuts and Today widgets to review your list faster. The Apple Watch app lets you monitor your progress from your wrist.

On iPad, Things is even more powerful. Use Split View, Slide Over, and Multiple Windows to drag and drop images and text from other apps into your lists. And the new three-finger gestures in iPadOS make cutting, copying, and pasting easier than ever.

Things 3 is a onetime purchase that doesn’t require a subscription. Download the iPhone, iPad, and Mac versions separately to sync your lists across devices with a Things Cloud account.
