GoodNotes 5 is a combination digital notepad and PDF markup tool. And it’s very good at both.
As a notepad, GoodNotes covers all the bases. Create notes with your keyboard or handwrite them with Apple Pencil. The app transforms your hand-drawn shapes into geometrically perfect ones. It’s also capable of recognizing your handwriting (even when you can’t) and converting it to text.
There’s also a fun feature for serious notebook fans (you know who are you are): a vast selection of paper, everything from school-style ruled notebooks and legal pads to accounting ledgers and sheet-music staffs.
But GoodNotes really shines when editing PDF, PowerPoint, and Word documents. Import an existing file to mark it up, highlight relevant portions, and add pages. Search for text within a PDF, including notes you’ve handwritten.
On iPad, GoodNotes is even more powerful. For efficient multitasking, use Split View, Slide Over, and multiple windows to drag and drop images and text between documents. Need to present? Project a note to the big screen while you mark it up with your Apple Pencil, creating a digital whiteboard of sorts. And while you’re typing, speed edits along by using three-finger gestures to cut, copy, and paste.
