If you want to plan a trick-or-treat route for maximum candy procurement, be sure to check the hyperlocal social network Nextdoor. Each October, the app asks neighbors to flag if they’ll be doling out sweets on Halloween.

A cute candy-corn icon indicates a house is partaking in the festivities. Houses marked in red are the ones to avoid. Never again will you waste precious time wondering if the porch is dimly lit to set a spooky mood or because no one’s home!

Houses marked with a piece of candy corn will be well stocked for trick-or-treaters.

Beyond Halloween, Nextdoor brings your neighborhood together in other ways. It’s helpful for selling stuff, finding home-maintenance pros, locating lost pets, and asking important questions like, “Did anyone else hear that loud noise?”

Your neighborhood’s message board is the place to ruminate on the latest crime statistics, the unseasonably warm weather in your particular microclimate, and so much more.
