You’re sleeping soundly when an asteroid crashes to earth. Panicked, you jump from bed and rush outside, unaware your life will never be the same.
So begins the surprisingly moving tale of A Boy and His Blob, an unlikely partnership that’s just as engaging as it is perplexing.
That’s because this beautiful puzzle-based platformer is a lot more difficult than it looks. That adorable white blob you just rescued from the asteroid impact? He’s now your sidekick, and with the help of a jar of jelly beans you can transform his stretchy self into whatever form you need.
It turns out giving the blob a bean causes unexpected things to happen. Pick the correct sweet treat and the cute little fella will contort into a ladder, portal, balloon, parachute, trampoline, or, well, pretty much whatever you need to overcome any situation. To get past the increasingly challenging levels, you’ll have to use the full array of the blob’s skills.
Turns out the asteroid has also brought peril. Deadly black blobs, along with plenty of other hazards, litter the levels. Successfully navigate them to unlock objects that just might help you later on.
A Boy and His Blob manages to be heartwarming, exciting, and tricky. It’s a brilliant reimagining of the Nintendo classic.
