Studio Hothead Games, best known for polished, intense shooters like Kill Shot Bravo, isn’t resting on its laurels. The Canadian company’s latest effort, Hero Hunters, is easily its most ambitious yet.
The game is a winning hybrid of genres—part cover-based third-person shooter, part light RPG—with robust single and multiplayer modes to boot. The fast and fun action sparkles with fluid cutting-edge graphics.
If you find shooters daunting, you’ll be happy to learn that Hero Hunters streamlines the experience by limiting movement. To maneuver your team of up to five heroes—each fully upgradable and customizable with unique loadouts—swipe left or right to easily dart from cover to cover so that you can focus on gunplay.
The controls are responsive, the design thoughtful. Within minutes, you’ll find yourself diving between platforms, popping off rounds at enemies, and cycling among different characters on the fly. Some heroes are adept with automatics, others are snipers and medics, and more still leverage powerful shotguns to blast through blockades.
It’s not just endless firefights, though. There’s a deep experience driven by a lengthy postapocalyptic solo mode, lots of loot, and some 40 characters with unique abilities to collect. And when you’ve finished that, battle on in finely tuned multiplayer skirmishes including cooperative, PvP competitive play, and alliances.
So if you love shooters, here’s a fresh new one that marries different types of play with an over-the-top style. And if you’ve never tried one before, there’s never been a better way to find cover and take aim.
