Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen
NutritionFacts.org
Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen takes a unique, open-ended approach to a healthy diet. Instead of asking you to limit calories or eliminate certain foods, the app simply suggests eating from 11 healthy food groups each day—and getting in a bit of exercise (which rounds out the recommendations to a tidy dozen).
Created by Michael Greger, a physician and best-selling author who’s written extensively on nutrition, the app gathers all of Greger’s evidence-based recommendations in an easy-to-digest format. It also simplifies the process of tracking your daily intake of the suggested foods like nuts, whole grains, beans, and vegetables.
In each food category, you’ll find Greger’s daily recommended intake as well his favorites. For cruciferous vegetables, for example, Greger suggests eating 1 cup raw or 1/2 cup cooked leafy greens such as kale, bok choy, or watercress. And under beverages, you’ll see that, in addition to water, drinks like coffee, matcha, and other teas count toward your intake goal.
A simple interface lets you quickly tally each time you’ve enjoyed a recommended food, while the progress bar is a surprisingly motivating way to keep yourself eating healthy throughout the day.
