Oddmar

Action-adventure Platformer

The indie team behind Leos Fortune, roundly praised by critics when it made its debut in 2014, is back with a platformer that takes the genre to new heights. With a hilarious and charming story line steeped in Norse mythology, this hand-drawn run-and-jump game is one of the year’s best.

Seriously—it controls every bit as good as it looks.

The hero travels through more than 20 stages, each with unique themes, challenges, and dangers (including four gigantic boss fights). You get four to six hours of platforming gameplay, and completists will spend many more hours collecting everything.

The game’s touchscreen control scheme just works. Whether Oddmar is fleeing a mob of Viking pursuers, leaping from a ledge, bouncing off jump pads, or riding a boar, he responds precisely and fluidly.

2D platformers don’t get any better.

“The greatest challenge when creating great platforming controls on touchscreens is onboarding,” says producer Johan Knutzen. “We spent a lot of time doing over-the-shoulder playtests on as many demographics as possible, because you want the experience to be intuitive and to build on what the player knows.”

Oddmar is also one of the prettiest games on the App Store. Colorful worlds come to life with beautiful cartoon-styled environments, smooth parallaxed backdrops, and animations that pop. This grandeur is complemented by a soundtrack with more than 90 minutes of original music inspired by Sweden’s contemporary folk movement.

The six-person development team at Senri spent four years creating Oddmar, and it shows.
