The mystery
You’re alone on an island with electronic puzzle panels everywhere. Not sure exactly what’s going on? Just go with it. Unraveling secrets is part of the fun.
When the game begins, you find yourself on a deserted island with no idea how you got there or what to do. All you know is you’re surrounded by puzzles at every turn. While the early ones are easy enough to solve, they grow increasingly fiendish.
The Witness has no tutorial, map, or onscreen prompts. But you figure it out as you work your way through the thoughtfully designed environments and challenges. If you get stuck, fear not—just try another puzzle. The freedom to explore is part of the fun.
You can easily get lost figuring out what it all means, from the mysterious statues to the underground tunnels that burrow through the island. And with 60-plus hours of compelling gameplay, there’s so much to explore. The more you complete, the more you learn about your mission and why you’re there.
As you venture on, some of the puzzles you encounter might seem arbitrary. You’ll soon discover, however, that their design and placement are intentional, layered, and often connected. See if you can discover what lies beneath the surface.
