On Monday, June 4, at the Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple celebrated the Apple Design Awards, recognizing the creative artistry and technical achievement of developers who reflect the best in design, innovation, and technology on Apple platforms. This year’s award winners include developers from across the globe, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, India, the Netherlands, Turkey, and the U.S.
Congratulations to all of the winners:
Agenda (the Netherlands) offers a new approach to note-taking on the Mac by combining writing, scheduling, and task-managing in a unique timeline for a clear picture of past, present, and future. The minimalistic design features elegent typography, powerful search, and navigation through notes, projects, and tools including iCloud sync and Handoff.
Bandimal (Finland) is a child-friendly music composer that substitutes instruments with animated cartoon animals, allowing kids to experiment with melodies and rhythms in a fun and unique way. The focus is on creativity—no notes, no chords, no rules, no scores.
Calzy 3 (India) is a powerful calculator that uses iOS technologies to offer features like multitasking, a memory area for multiple values, Face ID and Touch ID to privately view saved histories and bookmarks, drag-and-drop to share results in other apps, iMessage integration, Spotlight search for bookmarked results, a Today widget, and iCloud sync and Handoff.
iTranslate Converse (Austria) turns your iPhone and Apple Watch into a two-way translation device. The simple design enables natural conversations in 38 languages, works offline, and automatically detects the correct language between two selected languages for a fast and accurate translation.
Triton Sponge (U.S.) is an innovative iPad app used in medical operating rooms to quickly calculate and keep track of blood loss from surgical sponges and suction canisters. The app uses iOS technologies like Core Image and the camera’s Depth Map to detect rags, as well as Core ML and machine learning to perform complex blood loss calculations, to improve patient care.
Alto’s Odyssey (Canada) combines intuitive gameplay with great use of 3D Touch and haptics, along with gorgeous Metal optimized artwork and design, and a soothing and immersive soundtrack.
Florence (Australia) is an interactive storybook that merges gaming and comics to explore the triumphs and tribulations of falling in love. With its unique soundtrack, hand-drawn art, and emotional story, Florence is an experience with true universal appeal.
Frost (Austria) is a beautiful free-form puzzle game in which you draw paths to guide flocks of particles in oddly calming ways. Metal technology helps animate tens of thousands of simultaneously moving parts onscreen.
Oddmar (Turkey), with its hand-drawn levels and cinematic soundtrack, is a gorgeous game whose production values rival those of animated feature films. Oddmar has optimized gameplay for touch controls.
Playdead’s Inside (Denmark) features beautiful visuals, impressive sound design, and thoughtful puzzles, redesigned and optimized for iOS and tvOS. A wonderful puzzle-adventure platformer.
