Finding a place to live can be a nightmarish ordeal of sifting through hundreds or even thousands of properties. Zumper, a house and apartment rental app that shows listings in real time, makes the process as easy as booking a vacation rental or hotel room.
The app offers more than a million listings nationwide every month and allows you to search by dozens of parameters, from the basics (location, number of bedrooms, price threshold) to your amenity-specific wish list (swimming pool, roof deck, dry cleaning).
Postings are shown with photos, and often floor plans, in list or map format (great for homing in on specific neighborhoods) and include the location’s Walk Score (a metric of how close it is to public transportation, restaurants, grocery stores, and pharmacies).
For listings in America’s largest housing market (New York City), try Zumper Select. This in-app chat service teams you up with a human helper: Share your budget and move-in date and a Zumper rep will pull listings for you, coordinate a tour schedule for viewings, and even accompany you to showings (if you want a little extra hand-holding).
When you’re ready to sign a lease, you can run an Experian credit report and apply for the rental directly from the app, using Apple Pay to cover the application and credit fees.
