GAME
OF THE
DAY
Seashine
A light in the abyss
Lots of amazing things dwell in the ocean’s murky depths: bizarre aquatic plants, monstrous marine life, and you—a plucky jellyfish full of light.
Seashine tests your ability to survive in an underwater abyss that’s as beautiful as it is deadly. The game starts serenely: Quick swipes guide your luminous creature through undersea caves, chomping up glowing fish that refill your energy and increase your score.
But you’re nowhere near the top of the food chain in this endless swimmer. While some benevolent fish will mind their own business, others will try to sting, bite, or—like the massive Mutamara—swallow you in a single gulp. If you get too busy dodging predators and forget to feed, your light will run out and you’ll succumb to the darkness.
You’re no spineless jellyfish, though. Collecting stars scattered around Seashine’s procedurally generated world lets you upgrade to swifter and sturdier members of your species. You can also trade stars for survival-enhancing power-ups, like a shock-wave ability that’ll shake off predators.
An in-game encyclopedia tracks your fish and flora discoveries while offering tidbits of advice—so you’ll know to dislodge a parasitic Parakuka by scraping it against a crystal outcropping, for example.
Themusic—a gentle melody punctuated by haunting whale songs—perfectly reflects Seashine’s mix of relaxing and exciting. Like the ocean itself, it’s deeper than it looks.
