After playing Nyjah Huston: #Skatelife, you might find yourself walking down the street thinking, “Yeah, I could totally do a backside 360 kickflip onto the roof of that building over there.”
These are the kinds of exhilarating, impossible tricks you’ll pull off from the get-go in this extreme skateboarding adventure, which puts you in the shoes of supremely skilled pro skater Nyjah Huston. As you zip along the Venice Beach Boardwalk, grind rails, heel-flip across piers, grab massive air in half-pipes, and impress your adoring fans.
The controls are simple: Tap the screen to ollie (that’s skateboarding lingo for “jump”), start your grind, then swipe in any direction to perform tricks. You can also do daring moves in midair, but stick the landing or you’ll bail.
Unlock new tricks by completing challenges, like knocking over a bunch of parked bikes or gathering floating letters to spell the word “skate.” Tricks can be assigned to whatever swipe direction you choose, and chaining together huge combos is the best way to earn kudos from your admirers.
Though you skate along a preset path through the boardwalk, you’ll find lots of different trick-friendly routes through each course. Get good enough and you might even claim a leaderboard spot in one of the game’s online events—an achievement worthy of Huston himself.
