Candy Crush Friends Saga—the latest in the famed franchise—has arrived, and it’s packing new flavors. You still match colorful candies to clear each level, but a coterie of “helper” characters puts a clever spin on the fun.
These beautifully animated Friends lend a hand with powerful special moves. Pigtailed Candy Crush mascot Tiffi helps clear hard-to-reach candies with her endless bucket of fish. Excitable musician Nutcracker toots his trumpet to take out “blockers.” And adorable dance machine Yeti creates potent candy bombs with a giant snowball.
“You can either choose a friend that helps you to create special candies, or one of the more specialized friends that excel at destroying blockers,” says King level designer Jesper Stafjord. “Most players will find success in the game by switching between the different types of friends to deal with different challenges.”
When you trigger their ability, your pals really make an effort too, trying their best to set you up for candy-crushing success.
“For characters that put special candies on the board, they always try to place them in a meaningful and helpful way,” says senior level designer Pär Kamfjord. “For characters that help to destroy things on the level, they are always aiming at areas where they have the maximum output.”
Play well to earn new outfits for your Friends. Although you start with just a trio of pals, you can discover over 20 more, each with a unique power. (Tap them while they’re idle and you might get a fun little surprise.)
