Measure, inspect, and test

When you’re building an app, you need to know exactly how it will look on the device you’re developing it for; xScope makes that easy with a clever set of tools to measure, inspect, and test graphics and layouts with pixel-level precision.

xScope’s Screens tool quickly gives you a sense of how a design will appear on a range of devices (an iPad in portrait mode, an iPhone in landscape, a 13-inch MacBook Air) by putting an appropriately sized overlay on top of your existing windows. This way, you can see what’ll be visible on an iPhone Retina screen or a 720p TV without leaving the illustration or photo-editing app you’re designing in (or needing a slew of test devices on hand).

Take precise measurements of anything that appears on your screen with xScope’s overlay tools.

xScope can also help you test a design for accessibility. Using a pop-up menu, select various vision impairments and have the app simulate how your design will look to someone with that condition. In Presbyopia mode (which xScope lets you know affects an estimated 30 percent of the population), everything in the window will appear slightly blurred. Deuteranomaly mode shifts the hues on your screen to replicate red-green color blindness.

Mirror is another handy tool. With the help of an iOS or watchOS companion app, it beams the contents of a specific window on your Mac to your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. Changes you make in your desktop design program are updated on your mobile device in real time.

All told, xScope offers 10 tools—everything from rulers to precisely measure any element on your screen to lockable guides that hover over your windows and get everything aligned just so. For coders and designers who strive for perfection visually (and who doesn’t?), xScope is invaluable.
