Color is crucial in Sevn. This competitive puzzler takes place on a 3D grid made up of 49 colored blocks (or towers, as the game calls them). Players take turns removing towers from the grid. The first player to collect seven towers of the same color—or collect the most colors when time expires—wins.
That’s the short version; more complex rules govern Sevn’s simple premise, which blooms into a number of interesting strategies. Smart players try to set themselves up to take several towers in a round or make sure their opponent is limited to only one. Greediness can often be a losing strategy too. Take too many towers in a round and you open up more towers for your opponent to snag.
The game is loaded with style, from its meditative soundtrack to its soft color palette. Even the scoreboard—which elegantly tracks the color spread—is an intuitive way to keep track of who’s on top.
Sevn offers a single-player mode, where you can play bots of escalating difficulty levels, or you can test your mettle against the wilds of online multiplayer. However you choose to play, Sevn’s soothing sensibility makes this colorful tug-of-war a winner.
