Maybe you’re too busy to go shopping. Maybe online stores just offer too many options. Maybe you don’t even know if you have a style.

Whatever your shopping issue, Stitch Fix wants to fix it. Tell the app a little about yourself and one of the app’s personal stylists will mail you a shipment of five new items of clothing as often as you like. And as those old TV commercials used to say, there’s no obligation: Keep what you like, send back what you don’t. It’s like going shopping—only without the shopping.

Start by completing the general details of your Style Profile, telling Stitch Fix not only your size but your occupation, commute, body type (using thoughtfully illustrated examples), and whether you have kids.

In the Stitch Fix style quiz, there are no wrong answers.

After that, it’s time to get specific. To understand your aesthetic, Stitch Fix wants both big-picture and granular details: Do you prefer slim or loose cuts? Does your office have a dress code? What length of shorts are you comfortable wearing?

It’ll survey you about favorite brands. It’ll ask which colors you wouldn’t be caught dead in. It’ll present you with a series of outfit photos and have you choose which are great and which are not to your taste. It’ll ask whether you want to take some risks or play it safe. And, of course, it’ll ask about your budget and work within it.

That budget leads into the next key decision: how often you want new shipments. Stitch Fix’s most popular option is a Monthly Pick-Me-Up, in which you get a Fix once a month. You can also choose an Occasional Update (every two months) or a Quarterly Top-Off (every three).

Like it? Keep it. Otherwise, send it back with notes for your stylist.

The fun begins when your Fix arrives. If you don’t like an item your stylist has picked, just send it back. If you don’t like anything they’ve picked, send it all back. Zeroing in on your likes and dislikes is the point, and you can always discuss your decisions with your stylist. Shipping is free both ways.
