Soundly: Snoring & Sleep Apnea

A Myofunctional Research Study

View

Developed by researchers at the University of Minnesota in collaboration with the Fairview Sleep Center, Soundly helps you stop snoring using physical therapy disguised as a videogame.

The game works like this: Move your character from side to side by saying either “nee” (to go left) or “naw” (to go right). Then try your best to shoot the enemies falling from the sky before they hit the ground.

Cuddly characters encourage you to keep practicing.

That’s good fun, but much more is happening. Vocalizing those sounds acts as push-ups for the tongue—strengthening the muscles of the upper airways, tightening flabby tissue, and potentially reducing or eliminating snoring.

In a 2017 clinical trial funded by the National Institutes of Health, snorers tested Soundly for nine weeks. At the end of the trial, nighttime recordings showed that test patients snored less than before.

May you score high—and sleep soundly ever after.
