ROME: Total War - BI
Fight for Rome or destroy it
Conquering is the easy part. Maintaining order afterward? That’s the real headache. Just ask Constantine. Or better yet, try putting yourself in his sandals.
Where ROME: Total War followed the rise of ancient Rome, ROME: Total War—Barbarian Invasion focuses on the sunset of the empire. We’ll spare you the history lesson, because what’s important is controlling massive armies with your iPhone.
The hallmarks of the Total War series—turn-based empire management and real-time combat on a surprisingly detailed battlefield—are perfectly preserved in this mobile version of the beloved PC franchise. Will you rule over a faction of Roman legions or one of the barbarian hordes? Each army has its own strengths and weaknesses. The Huns, for instance, excel with cavalry, while the Saxons have access to potent infantry. Mobilize units, scout enemy locations, and attempt diplomacy to secure treaties or resources.
Inevitably, diplomatic efforts will fail (it’s called Total War, after all). It’s on the battlefield where the game truly shines. Position units and issue commands as the battle plays out before you. As a general, you read the flow of battle and give on-the-fly orders to your loyal troops. Thanks to the astonishing game engine, you can get a bird’s-eye view of the action or zoom close enough to see a soldier gripping his spear. Whether you’re a strategic mastermind or simply dream of controlling epic armies from the comfort of your couch, ROME: Total War—Barbarian Invasion is hordes of fun. Watch your flank!
