Plenty of games are about thwarting zombies—but in the pernicious puzzler Zombie Night Terror, you’re the one doing the shambling.
It starts with a new drug called Romero (named after the famous horror director), which unfortunately turns its subjects into ravenous zombies. As the one controlling the horde, that’s great for you—nibbling on prey passes on the infection.
But as news reports alert the population to what is going on (while cleverly detailing how power-ups work), you’ll find that potential victims put up a fight.
Run into trouble? Command your cadavers to bash down doors and clamber up stairs. You can even transform individual zombies into stoppers that redirect the horde away from deadly falls and well-armed survivors.
Each puzzlelike level is a strategic test. Can you take out all the humans without losing a single zombie? Set a stopper to explode and you can destroy walls and floors, opening up new routes to spread the virus.
With stark black-and-white pixel art and classically creepy music, Zombie Night Terror recalls the glory days of its rotting stars—they’re just a whole lot smarter.
