There’s no getting around it: P1 Select is really weird.
Crafted by design maestro Michael Brough (Imbroglio), P1 Select’s ’90s aesthetic, odd sound effects, and hand-scribbled characters make for one bizarre—and incredibly charming—puzzler.
The rules are complex and require wrapping your head around, but the premise is simple: Move one step at a time through a maze to reach the exit while avoiding enemies and collecting rings. How you get there is where P1 Select flies beautifully off the rails.
With each move you make, you change to a different character. When you play as Doom, for example, moving to the right one space transforms you into Phaser, who has his own movement and attack attributes.
Making P1 Select’s leaderboards requires more than just one great run. Your ranking is determined by averaging your scores across multiple playthroughs, so consistency is key.
From the endearing doodles to the thrill of beating a tough maze, P1 Select is a special kind of strange—the kind that’s really fun.
