24FPS: Aesthetic Video Effects
Unique AI Video Filters
As its name suggests, 24FPS—a reference to the industry-standard frame rate—lets you shoot strikingly cinematic videos with your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. In addition to offering two types of stabilization to make your camera movements appear more fluid, the app lets you choose among multiple aspect ratios (including 16:9 and 2.35:1) as well as filters that instantly give your movies the look of a Hollywood classic.
But its neatest feature might be how it uses machine learning to fine-tune its filters to your tastes: After you launch 24FPS the first time, tap the shape-shifting icon above the record button to play a short game called Filter Terminator that teaches the app the type of look you prefer.
Shooting with 24FPS is especially intuitive. All the standard controls are there: Tap to lock exposure and focus. Hold and swipe up or down to zoom in and out. Tapping the icon above the record button cycles through filters, while tapping and holding lets you preview the image without the filter applied.
When you’re done recording, add songs that you own or preview songs from your Apple Music library. The app also has a range of moody soundtracks (Chill, Suspense, Driving) that you can download directly. A subscription unlocks the app’s full range of cinematic filters (called LUTs), allowing you to add drama to your video—think the romantic hues of Amélie or the gritty, neon-accented vibe of Fight Club.
