Black Ink 2

Solve crosswords in style

Look, we get it: You really like doing your crosswords with a pencil and paper. But Black Ink 2 lets you solve an endless supply of your favorite crosswords by automatically downloading the latest puzzles from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and more. It also supports the standard Across Lite (.puz) format used by other sites.

The app’s elegant design lets you focus on clues and answers, and unlike with a newspaper puzzle, you can easily enlarge the window to make everything easier to read. Subtle status markers indicate squares with errors (as well as those you’ve revealed or corrected), while dark mode makes those late-night wordplay sessions easier on the eyes.

All the clues, none of the ink stains.

Solve puzzles without taking your fingers off the keyboard by using the Tab and arrow keys to move around; type a clue number to jump directly to it. Or use VoiceOver to navigate puzzles by voice—and have your Mac read each clue to you.

Stumped? View tips and author’s notes, or use the Solution menu to check for errors. Black Ink 2 can even open OneAcross.com with the clue and answer pattern already submitted.

Prefer solving the old-fashioned way? Have Black Ink 2 print your crosswords in booklet form, with one puzzle per page. Just don’t forget your eraser.
