A Starting Point

View

Civic-engagement app A Starting Point is a fact-driven, bipartisan communication channel between Americans and their elected representatives that presents issues and debates quickly, clearly, and spin-free.

What we love: In an age of knives-out politics, the chance to watch Counterpointsa respectful discussion about hot topics between two members from across the aisle—is priceless. And don’t miss A Starting Point’s succinct videos explaining key issues, or the app’s Daily Points, a forum where elected officials speak about an issue that’s important to them—all in less than two minutes.

Listen to thoughtful debates between politicians on both sides of the aisle.

Quick tip: Create an account to personalize your feed and follow your local representatives—or explore the list of contributors to select the reps you want to follow closely.

Meet the creator: In early 2020, reports of Captain America roaming the halls of Congress, talking to lawmakers, meeting with representatives, and conducting interviews began trickling out of Washington, D.C. But actor Chris Evans wasn’t looking for a new job—he was preparing to launch A Starting Point with cocreators Mark Kassen and Joe Kiani. The app may not save the world, but by improving connection and communication between citizens and their elected officials, it may help cultivate a more informed electorate. And that’s a great starting point, indeed.
