Joining the Tennis Clash tour is a big deal, and for the first time the game is including a player from the Middle East. Having virtual hero Omar join the line-up is a big thrill and he’ll no doubt be putting the Arab tennis scene in the spotlight.

In anticipation of his big debut in Tennis Clash, we grabbed some time with Omar to talk about all things tennis.

Middle Eastern player Omar is ready to take the tennis world by storm.

Tell us how you got into tennis?
My interest in tennis surprised me. Ever since I was a kid, my mind has focused on being pragmatic, and in my teenage years I found solace in science – I was a born academic. Studying brought me pleasure and helped me understand the world. My grades were always top of the class, teachers loved me; however my classmates, not so much. I have a bit of an attitude. Being tall, I was mostly left alone, but my sarcasm tended to keep everyone away.

Because of that, science was my only companion most of the time. After an incident at a college lab (a physics experiment that went too far), I was facing the possibility of expulsion, but the dean made me an offer: an hour of a sport, any sport, three times a week in exchange for my continued attendance – that way I would make new friends and have other reasons to enjoy college. I, of course, agreed. And so my relationship with tennis began. At 19, I was relatively old starting out, but once my mind tuned into the science of tennis, it became an obsession – it was an empirical study of the governing laws of the universe.

What do you think your key strength is on the court?
Being obsessed with the whys and whens, I’m constantly re-evaluating everything that happens on the court. Calculating a ball’s trajectory, thinking of tactical possibilities etc. My mind is my biggest strength.

Playing in the all-new Dubai Stadium must be a highlight, but what other locations do you love?
I don’t have a preference for other stadiums, but I love playing on other types of courts, including grass and clay. Given that the gameplay is a different experience on these courts, it provides the kind of challenge that I’ll really go deep into!

Who would you consider your biggest rival?
I would consider Leo my biggest rival. We’re both tall and skilled players, but we differ drastically in terms of personality. Leo is a jokester, a social guy and plays with his gut, and I’m quite the opposite. This contrast gets under my skin to be honest, since I value thoughtfulness and seriousness while playing.

How do you unwind after a satisfying victory?
I’m the kind of guy that, after a match, will take a shower and chill in the hotel room, play some chess alone, think of new strategies, take notes and mentally train for the new challenges ahead.

With his academic mindset and the skills to match, Omar is set to dominate the court in Tennis Clash this season; and with the limited-time Ramadan pack, you can play as Omar and challenge your friends while playing online. Can you become the true tennis master?
