The duke’s been kidnapped, and the mighty heroes of Maximus 2 are rarin’ to rescue him. Fight through towns, swamps, and mines in this side-scrolling beat-’em-up—delivering a royal beatdown to the medieval monsters in your path.
What we love: The massive brawls. Whether you’re going solo or teaming up in four-player cooperative mode, the screen quickly fills with legions of spiders, skeletons, and mummies. Good thing there are mounts to ride (including a flame-breathing dragon): the extra firepower really helps against a sludge-spewing swamp beast and other titanic bosses.
Quick tip: Don’t get surrounded. Try to stay in front of the horde—you’ll be better-positioned to smash multiple foes with forward-striking moves like Otus’ Running Clap and Scarlett’s Magic Bolt. You’ll also take fewer hits!
Meet the creator: Inspired by ’80s and ’90s coin-op classics, Hong Kong–based indie studio Four Fats specializes in retro-style games like Blackmoor 2 and Smash Club. The team made Maximus 2 in about a year and a half without interacting in person; the entire project was done remotely.
