Pixelmator Pro gets moving with video support.

Pixelmator Pro

Pro image editing for everyone

View

Pixelmator Pro has long been an image-editing powerhouse, combining professional-level tools with one-click features that improve your photos using machine learning. But the latest version of the award-winning app can also edit video using the same familiar tools, making it easy to combine video, photos, text, shapes, and effects—without learning a complex new app.

Here’s how to get started:

See it in action

To get a feel for how Pixelmator Pro can integrate video, choose File > New, pick an example from the Videos > Movie Title section, and click Create. When the file opens, click the play button to see the composition in motion.

The mini timeline lets you choose start and end points; drag the marker to scrub through your video.

Click the three dots button to access the Edit Video pop-up, where you can use drag handles or Advanced Settings to trim the video; click anywhere in the timeline to mark a poster frame for exporting as a still.

Play with layers

Explore how the project’s layers (View > Show Layers) interact with the video by turning each one on or off and adjusting transparency; tweak a layer’s text using the right-hand sidebar.

If you already edit images in Pixelmator Pro, the app’s video tools will feel familiar.

Then add layers of your own—a frame or text above the video, for example. Use adjustment layers to apply nondestructive filters such as black-and-white grain. Use blend modes and masks to integrate graphic designs and video footage.

Make your own

Ready to create something new? Choose File > New and pick any template from the All Templates list—options include everything from social media posts to movie titles to specific screen sizes. Then drag videos from the Finder onto your canvas to import them.

If your project includes multiple videos of different durations, the Edit Video pop-up includes options to stop, hide, loop, or “bounce” the shorter clips while the longer videos continue to play.

Save and share your work

Choose File > Save at any time to save the project in Pixelmator Pro format so you can continue working on it later. When you’re ready to share it, use File > Share > Save As for a quick MP4 video export.

For more control over your exported video’s quality, format, frame rate, and dimensions, use File > Export. Or use File > Export for Web to create multiple outputs—such as a video, an animated GIF, and a static image (using the aforementioned poster frame)—at once.
