APPS WE LOVE

Journal and Jot Down Notes by Hand

Penbook artfully re-creates the feel of a paper notebook.

Crafted with care for those who prefer writing by hand to typing, Penbook offers a longhand approach to keeping your daily agenda and task list (or just doodling).

What we love: The hundreds of stationery options—there’s not only ruled and grid paper but also monthly log templates for your dot journal, blank sheet music, and isometric graph paper for all your 3D schematics. The app’s array of writing tools feel like the real thing too. (The fine-tip marker is especially smooth with Apple Pencil.)

Create a daily agenda to track your schedule by hand, or jot down tasting notes on the fly. The app handily converts your handwriting into text you can cut and paste into other apps.

Quick tip: Import events from your calendar into one of Penbook’s templates to mark it up with X’s and scribbles, just as you would a paper agenda.

Meet the creator: Developers Slaven Radic and Ben Fox are aficionados of paper journals, and they enjoy discovering new notebooks on their travels. Fox returned from Kyoto, Japan, with a suitcase full of stationery. “It earned me some weird looks from customs when I came home.”
