The project was done through Gallaudet University’s Motion Light Lab training program on bilingual storybook apps. This program is funded by Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation.

The ‘Hawes and Mills’ Adventure!’ story follows a special friendship between a chipmunk and a thirteen-lined ground squirrel. Hawes and Mills take us through their adventure to find delicious sunflower seeds. The story includes some historical connections to the Wisconsin School for the Deaf. Viewers will enjoy Davianna Daniels’ beautiful artwork from Hawes and Mills’ perspectives while imaginations will come alive viewing Tom Harbison’s captivating ASL taking through Hawes and Mills’ experiences. This storybook app is a great way to make connections to character development, social emotional learning, forest animals, life cycle, seasons and sunflower seeds.
