A great puzzle has the power to captivate and focus the mind like few other activities can. har•mo•ny 3 elevates that concept thanks not just to its vast array of challenging (but always colourful) puzzles, but also its eclectic music-for-the-soul soundtrack. And, it’s sheer bliss for anyone who appreciates thoughtful colour coordination and neatly ordered layouts.
Each level in the game boasts a palette of harmonious colours. When you begin, the coloured blocks in the palette are arranged randomly before you. Your challenge is to carefully rearrange the blocks to recreate the original palette pattern. Blocks can only be moved vertically or horizontally, and those that are moved incorrectly turn black, so you’ll have to undo your move and try again. And to see whether you’re on the path to harmony, tap and hold the eye icon at the bottom of the app screen to see what your palette should look like.
The dots on each block indicate the number of times that block has to be moved. So, even if a block is in the correct place from the beginning, it must be moved the number of times indicated by the dots. When you place a block in it’s correct position, the dots disappear and the block is locked in; if you match everything to its correct space, a tick mark appears in every block in the palette and you’re on your way to the next challenge.
As you level up, har•mo•ny 3 gets trickier, of course. You’ll have to be a little tactical with blocks that have multiple dots so they don’t get stuck as you arrange all the other blocks in their correct position. But as your palette gradually comes together, it’s a deeply satisfying moment to see the blocks finally appear in unison along with those coveted tick marks of success.
The app is simple to navigate so you can get down to the business of conquering each level. Sorting blocks isn’t the only thing that will have you drifting off into contented calm though; the app’s soothing soundtrack (performed by musicians Hammock) perfectly complements the game’s relaxed ambience.
And the one unpuzzling thing about har•mo•ny 3? Well, it’s probably just how easy it is to slip into the mesmerising rhythm of each level as you try to achieve perfect block harmony.
