These operations really are global, too: from sun-kissed Grecian ruins to the lavish surroundings of a Chinese bank via a picturesque Italian village, the maps you’ll battle on are colourful and varied.
Accessible dual-thumb controls make it easy to fine-tune your aim, with buttons to look down your sights, throw a grenade, or patch yourself up when you’ve taken a few hits. Crouch when sprinting, meanwhile, and you can pull off a stylish slide into cover.
Outside the every-soldier-for-themselves Free For All mode, it’s mostly a squad-based game for teams of four: Team Deathmatch plays out as it sounds, while Control asks you to capture three tactical zones, granting you more points for each enemy you take down when you hold more control points than your opponent.
Then there’s the brilliantly tense Plant The Bomb, where you’ll have to place and defend an explosive or race to defuse it – though you can also win by eliminating the opposing team.
Random matches get you into a game within seconds, so no waiting around for your opponents to show up. Even after an agonising defeat, you’ll gain valuable experience, as well as making progress in daily and weekly quests.
These bonus objectives give you extra rewards towards weapon and gear upgrades to keep you in the game for longer. Whatever you think of its name, if you’re in the mood for some high-octane online action, Warface: Global Operations is a must-play.
