Assemble your Avengers
In the post-credits scene of the first Iron Man movie in 2008, we saw Nick Fury arrive at Tony Stark’s house to talk about “the Avengers Initiative”. Four years later, as The Avengers premiered, the world watched in awe as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye teamed up and smashed box office records. But the line-up we all know and love hasn’t always been like this.
Back in 1963, when the comic book Avengers #1 was published, the iconic group was made up of Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Ant-Man and The Wasp. Over time, the Avengers kept on changing as members joined or left the team, and different storylines resulted in wildly varied line-ups. At one point, in the Uncanny Avengers series, the flippant mercenary Deadpool was an Avenger. And, to make it even more absurd, there was a pre-historic version of the group back in 1,000,000 BC!
If that inspires you to create your individual mix-and-match version of the superhero group, we’re certainly on the same Helicarrier. In fact, that’s why we’ve been enthralled with these superb games that let us assemble our very own team of Avengers.
