Improve your openings with this Chess openings explorer! Discover more than 10,000 openings and its database of over 2 million Grandmaster games.
It also helps you find which openings are better by showing you their respective win rates, among other statistics.
For example, did you know that black win 4% more games on average by answering "1. e4" by a Sicilian ("c5") rather than an Open Game ("e5")?

A promising concept not fully realized
The app offers a database for games of high ranking players, and a management of said data by their opening game tree branches and winrate statistics, but there is so much more potential to be explored.
With regards to the content, there is a marked lack of the older, historical games that laid the foundation for modern chess, and the opening game tree is therefore deprived of its rightful diversity.
More technically, the data present could be organized in many other ways. There is nothing to be detracted from the raison d’etre of the app in categorizing the games by player, and time, possibly putting them into a timeline that can give a glimpse into the evolution of chess opening theory.
On that same note, you could provide a small library of summary introductions to the various openings.
The quiz is a good interactive feature that makes the experience more enjoyable, but on the whole the app as it is is dry and exactly what it’s said to be on the cover. Not a wasted investment, for sure, but not necessarily the most profitable one.
