Ever watch a 3D street artist work their magic and wish you could do the same? Actually, all you really need are three 2D diamond shapes to make images that truly pop. That’s the idea behind Isometric.
Beautiful geometric 3D images are created through three basic steps: open a new palette, add diamonds (or more precisely, rhombi) and arrange. Each rhombus can be oriented in three directions: Tap once for upright, twice to tilt right and three times to tilt left.
Arrange one of each 2D rhombus together and a cube jumps from the screen! From there, try different combinations and get creative to make all sorts of intricate 3D designs. If a rhombus seems out of place, simply tap to remove it.
If you need inspiration or a starting point, the app comes with many sample designs to browse through. Double tap on one that catches your eye to get its outline. This helps you figure out how to replicate it with rhombi.
Colour plays a big part in achieving a strong 3D effect. Tap the options icon at the top right and select the paint bucket. Pick a colour, and then tap on the shape of choice. It’s that simple. If you want to get even more creative, play with filters or try aligning several designs together. You’ll be surprised by your own genius.
