Notifications

The app is guide good. Only problem is that it doesn’t send you notifications when announcements are sent. The developers should really work on that because having to constantly check if you haven’t missed anything is hard and one might forget. But overall the app is fine and have never experienced problems

Reviewing after 5 years

My degree was a 5 year degree and I have been using this app since the first day it was available, and this is what I found.

The bad:
•For some reason it doesn’t matter if you tick the “keep me signed in” box, because you will constantly (daily) be required to sign in again.
•I asks to sign in with your fingerprint but this has NEVER worked for me, and everytime I agreed when it asked, to no avail.
•The colours of the courses are selected by the app and you have no say in this to coincide with your timetable colour.
•Announcements used to give you the ability to go to the module home page, but now you can only go to the announcement and have to use the long way to get to the course.
•You are not notified of changes in your gradebook.

The good:
•You get notifications of every announcement posted by the lecturer.
•It’s convenient in speed and is somehow much faster than any browser performing the same functions.
•The layout is rather self explanitory and very effective.
•When the app works, it works very well and allows for quick access to all modules

Ultimately I found the app very useful in the past 5 years, but I was constantly annoyed by it’s flaws. It’s one of those things that there is unfortunately no alternative and you are forced to use the app, and so you have to live with it’s flaws. I would honestly have rather used another app if I could, or would love to just see changes to it to take the best interest of its users into account.

Issues with Push Notifications

The Blackboard app is usually quite good overall. However, recently I have been having an issue that forced me to log in via my institution daily. This was very annoying. I hope the issue has been rectified with the recent update. Furthermore, after the update to Blackboard Ultra, I no longer have Push Notifications on both my iOS devices despite enabling it in settings. There is no option to choose the banner notification. I hope this may be fixed soon.
