The power might be off, but the community is always on.
EskomSePush (ESP) is South Africa's most-loved app for tracking loadshedding and connecting with your local community. We give you accurate schedules and a space to talk to your neighbours, turning chaos into connection.
KNOW YOUR LOADSHEDDING SCHEDULE
Real Areas, Not Blocks: We use your actual suburb and area name, not confusing "blocks." Get the right schedule and notifications for your specific area.
Push Notifications: We’ll send you alerts and warnings before your loadshedding slot starts. Yes, this includes our infamous 55-minute heads-up!
Follow Multiple Areas: Keep track of home, work, or family members' suburbs with ease.
FIND OUT WHAT'S HAPPENING NEARBY
"Is It Just Me?": Power out unexpectedly? Jump into your area's chat to see if it's loadshedding or a local fault. Get answers from neighbours in real-time.
Local Community Chats: This is your space to connect. Chats are grouped by your suburb, so you're only talking to people nearby.
More Than Power: Share a heads-up about a water outage, report a pothole, or find out what that siren was. If it's happening in your neighbourhood, it's happening on ESP.
BUILT FOR CONNECTION, NOT NOISE
Focused & Local: ESP Chats aren't another noisy feed. They are focused spaces where what you share matters to the people reading it.
Safe & Simple: No admin gatekeepers. No phone numbers exposed. Just neighbours helping neighbours.
Community-Powered: You decide what's helpful. AI keeps things tidy in the background so you can focus on what matters.
Local problems need local action. We're building the foundation for South Africans to support each other and find solutions together.
Join the community that keeps South Africa connected, even when the lights go out.

After launching this app for maybe the millionth time, I happened to notice a section on the main screen that mentioned the bad ratings it had received to-date. Now, I’m not someone who places a lot of faith in most ratings in general (especially those that are open to the general public) and instead prefer to try things myself. By extension, I’m also not someone who normally partakes in submitting any such ratings, let alone write accompanying reviews for them. After checking the app & seeing that load shedding was scheduled for my area, I find myself uncharacteristically writing this review now because I’ve confirmed the existence of the negative reviews mentioned previously (one star, really?) & because I’ve found the app to be too invaluable to-date to let this one go. Also, because there’s load shedding in my area now (predicted correctly once again by this app) and I have some spare time on my hands. To get to the point:I’ve been using this app for years now - both at work and at home. I work in the energy industry, so I reference info supplied by this app several times a day. I can confidently say that it is the most useful app that has ever been installed on any phone that I have ever owned. I don’t need a widget extension for it, nor was I even aware of the chat functionality mentioned in some of its other reviews. I just want an app from which I can *always* obtain the correct info on any upcoming load shedding sessions on demand. Given the handful of bad reviews for it, perhaps I’ve been super lucky… but this app has not failed me yet. Not even once.
Changing stages
morning bird7
While your app is wonderfully accurate, these ever-changing notifications give us anxiety. At10pm at night we get a notification that says we are down to stage 2. And then at 4am next day we get a notification that it’s back to stage 4. Why mess us around? Why not just leave it on stage 4 the whole weekend or the whole week because that’s what’s gonna happen anyway. Why do we keep getting notifications every 6 hours that things will change and they don’t? It gets our hopes up for nothing. And makes us change plans unnecessarily. Other than this, this app really helps. A lot. Because to hell with this country and the thieves at Eskom who blame us for their incompetence. Electricity is a basic human need. Like water and whatever else. What we are being charged is ridiculous in a country that has no jobs for people.
Convenient and Helpful
Its_Matt
Overall this app is excellent. There are reliable updates on loadshedding for the country and you can choose several areas to monitor. The insights are useful too. There are two main drawbacks in my opinion: 1 - the app has a feature that allows users to talk to one another. This would be excellent if the chat was limited to topics that relate to municipal and other services and the outages thereof. Unfortunately most people seem to use it to chat about irrelevant topics such as games they play. 2 - the app doesn’t have a widget that can be added to a home-screen. This means to see the information, one has to open the app every time. Ideally a small widget that just has the current level of loadshedding and the next time the loadshedding is going to effect a particular area would be part of the app. I recommend this app over all the other websites and app that claim to keep track of loadshedding.
Good app but…..
Just2688
Don’t like the new area specific updates, it not convenient, the previous version allowed me to see what’s happening in the areas around me once off, now we have to add each area to your list and go into each and every surrounding area one at a time to see important happenings, which is very time consuming…please revert back to old version. By having easy access on updates that’s happening in other places and areas surrounding us helps to keep citizens updated about what’s happening in communities around them… if that makes sense…no one has time to go tap on each every suburb when something major is happening….for instance Alberton recently has had a lot of substations exploding and atm bombings but we can’t see the updates because someone’s update only show in Mayberry Park….people in Brackenhurst or albertsdal areas they can’t see it unless the go into Mayberry park area. Please go back to old version this new update is not good…
*New Channels*
Simpler is better. Each area has its own channel so it's easier to see what's happening nearby.
*Less notification spam*
Channels only notify you when it matters. Fine-tune per channel in settings.
*Search*
Find chats faster with the new search.
*Other bits*
Power off vs Power on, chat prompts, scrolling fixes, and a pile of small improvements. Check the app to see!
