Slow download
Poor app!. Whenever a download is interrupted, the whole process starts over again. This is very frustrating and wastes a lot of data as you can sometimes be above 50% and then loose everything to start from scratch again!
Best mag app I've seen so far!
My review is about the app rather than the magazine itself (I presume if you're looking at this you're already familiar with Popular Science and its contents...)
This is by far the most brilliant magazine app I've worked with so far! The presentation of articles is out of this world, compared to other magazine apps that come much closer to replicating a printed edition on your iPad screen. The presentation of Popular Science with text and graphic overlays, and virtual cut-outs that float over various layers really makes for a novel reading experience.
My only gripe is that the app is perhaps a bit patronising in insisting that you download only over WiFi.
Individual issues are HUGE (about half a gig per issue) which probably explains why the developers cut out 3G as an option - but it would have been nice to at least have the option of enabling 3G downloads. In some countries 3G is a much more common medium than WiFi, with contracts and pricing structure to match the higher demand.
But that's my only criticism... I strongly recommend you get this and look at the two preview issues.
Finally, the subscription costs at $15 per year is a steal compared to some other premium magazines out there - imho at least :)
